Founded in 2017, YEWO is a transparent Social Enterprise connecting the consumer directly to the handcrafted product and the person behind it. We are 100% dedicated to homegrown sustainable development in rural Malawi, East Africa through artisan training + fair-paid job creation.
In addition, 5% of every YEWO purchase is donated to local educational outreach programs (click here for more info!).

We offer an artisan training course to teach new skills, develop existing craftsmanship, and encourage local leadership. Part of this training includes business lessons so the artisans can develop their own small businesses within their community

Artisans are provided with machinery, uniforms, reliable salaries, and the resources for personal growth. The skills learned through YEWO allow individuals to provide for their families and contribute to the development of their community

We believe in design + quality. Our one-of-a-kind pieces are made using traditional and modern craftsmanship in Manchewe Village and then shipped directly to Asheville, NC. Each product comes with a story, and thanks to you, a future for the person who handcrafted it

Not only does YEWO provide local empowerment through job creation, but 5% of every purchase is donated towards educational initiatives in Manchewe (click here for more info!). Our transparent business model allows consumers to use their purchasing power for good

The YEWO workshop is part of the Manchewe Community Center which was built in 2017 after a crowdfunding campaign. Inside you will find an array of jewelry making tools, saws, rolling mill, textile materials, and five (foot powered) sewing machines. We have an outdoor kitchen, onsite cook + cleaner, and three night-watchmen (woo-hoo more jobs!). We provide all staff with tea and scones in the morning and a healthy lunch in the afternoon.

The YEWO workshop facilitates a comfortable, family-like work environment where individuals are supported and pushed towards personal growth and leadership. And we are still growing! Next year we will be building an on-site YEWO gift shop. Stay tuned!
